The difference between industrial camera and intelligent camera

Generally speaking, the difference between industrial camera and intelligent camera is that intelligent camera is a highly integrated micro machine vision system, and industrial camera is one of the components of machine vision system.

Intelligent camera is not a simple camera, but a highly integrated micro machine vision system. It integrates image acquisition, processing and communication functions into a single camera, thus providing a multi-functional, modular, high reliability and easy to implement machine vision solution. At the same time, due to the application of the latest DSP, FPGA and a large number of storage technology, its intelligent degree is constantly improved, which can meet the application requirements of a variety of machine vision.

Composition and function of intelligent camera:

1. Image acquisition unit: in intelligent camera, image acquisition unit is equivalent to CCD / CMOS camera and image acquisition card in common sense. It converts the optical image to an analog / digital image and outputs it to an image processing unit.

2. Image processing unit: image processing unit is similar to image acquisition and processing card. It can store the image data of image acquisition unit in real time and process the image with the support of image processing software.

3. Image processing software: the image processing software mainly completes the image processing function under the support of the hardware environment of the image processing unit. Such as geometric edge extraction, blob, gray histogram, OCV / ovr, simple location and search, etc. In the intelligent camera, the above algorithms are encapsulated into fixed modules, which can be directly applied by users without programming.

4. Network communication device: an important part of the intelligent camera of the network communication device, which mainly completes the communication tasks of control information and image data. In general, the intelligent cameras are built-in Ethernet communication devices, and support a variety of standard network and bus protocols, so that multiple intelligent cameras constitute a larger machine vision system.

Industrial camera is an important component of machine vision system. Its most basic function is to transform light signal into small high-definition industrial camera for orderly electrical signal. Choosing the right industrial camera is also an important link in the design of machine vision system. It not only directly determines the image resolution and image quality, but also controls the operation mode of the whole system.

Main parameters of industrial camera

1. Resolution: the pixel number of each image collected by the camera is generally directly corresponding to the pixel number of the photoelectric sensor for the digital camera, and depends on the video system for the analog camera, PAL system is 768 * 576, NTSC system is 640 * 480.

2. Pixel depth: that is, the number of bits of data per pixel. Generally, 8bit is commonly used. For digital cameras, 10bit, 12bit, etc.

3. Maximum frame rate / line frequency: the rate at which the camera collects and transmits images. Generally, it is the number of frames collected per second for the area array camera and the number of lines collected per second for the line array camera.

4. Exposure mode and shutter speed: for linear array camera, line by line exposure mode is adopted. The acquisition mode of fixed line frequency and external trigger synchronization can be selected. The exposure time can be the same as the line cycle, or a fixed time can be set. Area array camera has frame exposure, field exposure and rolling line exposure and other common modes. Digital camera generally provides the function of external trigger acquisition 。 Generally, the shutter speed can reach 10 microseconds, and the high-speed camera can be faster.

5. Pixel size: pixel size and pixel number (resolution) jointly determine the size of camera target. At present, the pixel size of digital camera is generally 3 μ M-10 μ M. the smaller the pixel size is, the more difficult it is to manufacture, and the less easy it is to improve the image quality.

6. Spectral response characteristics: it refers to the sensitivity of the pixel sensor to different light waves. The general response range is 350nm-1000nm. Some cameras add a filter in front of the target to filter the infrared light. If the system needs to be sensitive to the infrared light, the filter can be removed.
